The 2nd team have had a magnificent end to the season and with one
match to go have secured a fabulous mid-table position in the highly
competitive Surrey Cup Division 7. Following their incredible
promotion last season the squad has faced some tough encounters, often
against vastly more experienced opponents, some even wearing limb-supports.

Having won an amazing five out of 15 matches and featured in a
stunning 19-0 reverse, it has been a truly remarkable season for this
group of talented young players. Team captain Jon Corke said: “I’m
proud of the boys. Each week they’ve turned out and put in some great
performances, normally lost, but then hit the bar and drank more beers
than the opposition. And that’s the important thing.”

Squash 3rd team in strong position

The third team achieved five straight wins against Dorking last week, giving them a cool 19-0 points to put them back on the top of the table with 2 games to play. Well done team and good luck for the last two!

Burns Night – Grafton style

On 29th January, Grafton members partook in some Scottish revelry in honour of the great poet including music, poetry readings and a few songs. They enjoyed a full dinner of haggis, cock ‘a leekie soup, neeps etc and of course a few drams. Plus there was a surprise Polish addition to the menu!

Big Issue Walk

‘Team Grafton’ entered the Big Night Out Winter Walk on 20th November 2009 for the Big Issue.

Melanie Gibbs, Morvern Scott & Kirsty Ogilvie walked 18 miles on the streets of London at night for Team Grafton along with Anthony North who works for the Big Issue.

They managed to raise £1,396 for the Big Issue and would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Grafton who sponsored them.

A match is planned between Grafton and Coleraine LTC on September 25; accommodation will be in the coastal town of Portrush with the added attractions of the Giants Causeway, the wild Antrim coast, real Guinness in cosy bars etc; all interested parties should talk to Murray please and see the tennis noticeboard for more details.

Squash 1st team looking good for promotion this season

The first team had a good start to the second half of the season, with a relatively comfortable 4-1 win over David Lloyd Hampton. Stuart Roberts won easily 3-0 at no. 1, Sean lost 3-2. Jon Gray won 3-1 by default after opponent retired at 1 game all. After a solid start new 1st team recruit Ben lost his way but stuck in it for a 10-8 win in the fifth at number 4, and Peter stitched his opponent up with some classic vintage backhand lob serves and drops from the back of the court to win 3-1 at number 5.

Perhaps when you next see Jon in the bar, you should ask him exactly why his opponent retired after the first 2 games……….
